I've taken a liking to toned coins and came across these. I have the opportunity to purchase a 1964 proof set but not sure if the price of $50 is over paying. I believe book value is around $19 for a regular 1964 proof set. Any suggestions, I may be able to haggle the price.
Those coins appear to be mint state from the photos. Are you sure it is a proof set? Regarding the toning, only the quarter has toning that would command any sort of premium. My advice is to stick to NGC and PCGS slabbed coins only when purchasing rainbow toned coins.
George looks like he has taken some hits not sure he is a proof might be MS but I'm not sure about proof. Ice
Yes excuse me on the proof set, I mean mint. I'm still new to the coin collecting world. Maybe I'll try low balling for the coins since I like them :goofer:
Yes, George is the only one with decent color (and even then only on the obverse - the reverse looks rather dark), but he will not grade very high. I would not pay much of a premium at all for that set.
