Legend on spanish coin

    I have a 1760 gold 1/2 Escudo minted in Madrid. On the reverse it has the legend "HISPANIARUM REX." I know what HISPANIA and REX mean. Could you tell me what the "RUM" part of the legend means.

    I would think that it probably refers to the Spanish Empire or realm.
