    Hello All

I am Steve and wanted to share the new coin I purchased. I believe it is a Hadrian tridrachm mint of Tarsos. The coin has a great provenance of Garth R. Drewry Collection and was sold in CNG Auction 69 the link is below. The good part is the coin was sold 550 plus fee in 2005 but I got it for 307 in 2021 , great deal isn't it?

It's a lovely coin, and the predatory lion grabbing a beef dinner on the reverse is interesting.

Steve, It looks like you made a great score :D! The portrait is finely engraved & the lettering is of exceptional quality for a Roman provincial coin.

Thank you all for your warm comments! I am not a Roman coin collector and this one was literally my first! However, when I found that it was offered at a price which was much lower than what was sold in CNG back in 2005, I could not resist!

Thanks Al! Seems you are a seasoned Roman Guru so you should know much more than me

Steve, I'm no guru but I can boast a nice collection of select Roman provincial Tets & Diocletian era folles :D. I've been a serious coin collector for over 50 years & had a coin & antique shop for 7 years, so a lot of nice coins have passed thru my hands . Let me give you a piece of proven advice; just because you bought a coin for far less money than it sold for in 2005 doesn't mean you got a great deal :jawdrop:. New hoards of ancient coins come to the marketplace all the time, so what was rare in 2005 may not be rare today. In the case of your tridrachm I believe it's as scarce today as it was 17 years ago, with Prieur citing 10 examples of that type .
