Hi folks... As some of you know we have a Security Engravers Group and I made my presentation on this past Sunday. Let me tell you I could not have done it w/o some help from a friend, Daggarjon. He went out of his way to support my presentation on his site all while away on a hunting trip. I found this Jamaican set at the Boston show on Sunday and thought of him...I would like to give this to DJ for his help. It was issued in 1977 and is one of 5000 sets. The Series date the star and another feature on on this note and that is all that differs between these and the normal issue notes. Hope you do not have these already DJ, I will mail them soon. And thanks again for your support. RickieB
Most of the countries of the world have the US beat, hands down, when it comes to beauty. Somewhere in this house I have a collection of modern foreign notes and coins. I should try and find it.... Thanks for posting those.:hail:
We need a scale to measure "beauty". In this forum whenever somebody posts any note (I mean ANY note) there always multiple replies how beautiful it is. It puts really beautiful notes in the same row with something ordinal what is unfair. Don't get me wrong, $5 1963* in gem might be a very nice addition to any collection but I'd like to reserve word "beautiful" to something like notes in this post.
Beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder so I really don't think it's possible to make a scale but I can certainly appreciate the idea. In reference to the above notes, IMHO I like the second from the top. The one with the hummingbird is as beautiful as beautiful gets. Lucky Daggarjon, good for you!!
We have to try, otherwise RickieB's double question mark will be left unanswered. Value of notes is not counted - it rather reflects rarity (but not only that). Fancy serial number, star or not star, grade also should not affect "beauty score". I'd put these notes below $2 1923 SC but above $1 1923 SC.
Do we have a *gasp* smiley on the forum?? I can easily say that NO i do not have any of the above notes in my collection! I have a lone dollar from Jamaica in my collection, and it is dated 1990. While any help i offered was very basic and nothing in comparison to the work done by you on the presentation, i was glad to offer what i could. And while a simple thanks would have been sufficient, a warm thank you from me for the notes and trust me when i say, they will be proudly added to my collection!!!
DJ..glad they can fit into your collection. I failed to mention that they come in a nice presentation Binder from The Jamacian Gov. The Red lettering of the Series 1976 was the other feature that is different on these than the normal issue notes. RickieB
I recently purchased a Norman Manley $5 proof silver coin (circa 1972). It would match up nice with the $5 note. Traci :kewl:
i love those notes. the artwork and colors are amazing. i have ones that are very similar only the are the 1978 issue. they are a special 25th anniversary edition for Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 Coronation. i have sets of consecutive numbers. i also have *001296
I agree 100%! I love the colors used, they are not over-the-top, but well balanced and pleasant to look at. The subjects depicted on the backs are tastefulll and artistic, yet also depict parts of the island country. Its like traveling the world without leaving my chair Thanks for the vacation RickieB :thumb:
Nice set of notes. I have a few Jamaican notes but mine are all well used. The special series is quite a nice thing to collect. Congrats to Daggarjon. It was very nice of Rickie to express his appreciation in this manner. :thumb: Really helps to make this the great site that it is.
It was very nice indeed for him to do what he did, and yes - it does help to make this site a great site
DJ.. it's my pleasure..what I did not tell you was that in the package that will be mailed out this weekend, the book I used for part of my Presentation; (The First 100 Years of the BEP 1862-1962) by: Durst Publications is also included. Thanks again DJ, you are 1 of a kind! :high5: RickieB
I think for the first time i will disagree with you I am 1 of many, a bubble in an ocean - really. Your willingness to spread the wealth of numismatics to others truly makes you 1 of a few - a very few!! I offer what i can to others because i dont have much else to offer. I know enough, but not alot. I can buy enough, but not alot. My collection is enough, but not the best, the greatest or in any stretch very big. I cant give folks much in the way of expert advice, or hold contests with cool prizes. I cant foster the excitement, and wantingness to learn and collect. Not the way you can and do! All i can do is help when i can Your advice is as expert as alot of us can find on alot of Large and small size notes. You freely offer your advice, opinions and guidance to anyone who asks and willing to listen. You can and very often do hold contests to test the knowledge, challenge the boundaries of each of us, and reward more then just the person with the most answers and with more then just a pat on the back. Many of us on the forum have been a recipient to your generosity. Myself, more then once. You go out of your way, and what i will call above the call of duty as an ambassador to the hobby! Tis you who should be honored with a prize RickieB, not me. But as always, your thoughtfullness and genorosity is appreciated and i am very glad to be able to call you a friend, and whose friendship goes well beyond that of this public forum. I think it will be easy for me to say you have left a lasting memory not only on me, and not only on my son who you have also honored in the past - but on many, many people on this forum, and dare i say, most any place you go. Thank you RickieB! Not just for the gifts of thanks - but for being the person you are to all of us... to the hobby!
RickieB,DJ said it all ,your advice & generosity and friendship to all new and senior members is appreciated by me & I'm sure all of the PM members & people in your life.
i would have to agree with DJ. you are quite a stand up guy RickieB:thumb: never think twice to share your insight. i know you have helped me in my quest
