I watched parts of the 3 day G&M auction. Normally I look at RR coins and cast bronze (that is often in the Greek section). This time, I did not have to wake at 3AM to see early lots because I targeted a few scale weights. The extra sleep was nice and I picked up my target, a one As and half As scale weight lot. the seller's description - Gewichte. AE Libra (326g) und sechs Unciae (159g). Quadratische Handelsgewichte mit eingravierten Gewichtsbezeichnungen. 5. - 7. Jh. n. Chr. Rs. glatt. 2 Stück! Condition: Grüne Patina, ss AE Libra (326g) and six Unciae (159g). Square trade weights with engraved weight designations. 5th - 7th century A.D. Rs. smooth. 2 pieces! Condition: Green patina, ss I am often surprised by grades and this is no exception. I do not see any green (but then again I am a bit color blind). I do not know what qualifies a weight to grade VF. There is not much wear, but a few hundred years ago someone probably removed silver filling from the letters. Some sellers note that the silver was removed. The pics tell the story here. post any GM wins or disappointments
They had plenty of neat coins. I have to remind my fingers that I do not need every coin I like, want, need.... I was lucky to pick up my lot below estimate.
I agree they need to send out notifications, I stumbled across it on SIXBID which I don't normally look at. there was some real bargains as usual in the provincial section.
Interesting pieces. With your niche you should really consider publishing a paper on these or even writing a handbook for the beginner who might want to collect these. I am sure you would have a wealth of information to share.
326 grams!!! Those things are massive. I hope the post office covers your postal carriers hernia operation Not a GM win, but made me think of your mighty collecting @rrdenarius: It's listed as: Uncertain weight or bulla/ seal- Calculi 14 mm, 4,18 gr I done believe it's a bulla (at least not my understanding of what a bulla is). But with its small size and the designs make me wonder if it's not a weight that it might be a gaming piece? But I'm very new to this area of collecting.
