    It is the same as a 43 on a copper planchet. The blanks get stuck somewhere in the hopper, and get mixed in with the intended blanks.

    I wonder what caught the attention of the persons who discovered them in the first place. Was it the color? Was it the odd weight? Maybe one of them passed the "ring test". Perhaps @Fred Weinberg would like to tell us his backstory.

    I would think an XRF analyzer for a coin this special.

    That's really cool

    Probably based on weight and size. The Curaçao 25C coin was probably the one plancet that fit those specifications that were minted in Philadelphia at that time.

    The weight combined with the details would be one.
    All three of the planchets are 19mm.
    Weights are different.
    Steel 2.7g
    Copper 3.17
    Curacoa 3.575
