first off thanks to all who helped me with my earlier post. as i mentioned before,i joined the collector's society and got a couple vouchers for my $100 bucks. in my first 5 coins sent in,5 came back bodybagged,1 slabbed au-58. the other voucher is for ncs. says i can get 3 coins graded under ncs conservation/details program when 5 are submitted. their instructions really confuse me. does this mean i pay for 2 coins and 3 are free? also, can i send in my 1860-o dollar(which they bodybagged as cleaned),have them "conserve" and grade it for me and then send it back slabbed? if it didn't get slabbed in the first place, for being cleaned, then how can they clean it for more money and then send it back to me and now it's a-ok? i'm not trying to be a smart aleck here,i just don't understand. i hate to send my coins in if their not going to be slabbed at $30 a pop, plus shipping but on the other hand i don't want to waste my other voucher. please advise. thank you.
Yep...sure does... You can but it will still be cleaned and the slab will be marked so anybody can tell that something happened to that coin...and tell its been cleaned. First of all...the first time you sent it to NGC...not NCS...that is one reason..NGC doesn't slab cleaned coins...ANACS/NCS/PCI do but other than ANACS the others are not listed at tops in collectors eyes... It's still not OK...they will mark that its been cleaned and such but they holder the coin that way it can get marks and digs in it...some people might have a rare coin that is worth $$$ but its been cleaned...so instead of leaving it in a flip where it could get more marks and lower the grade and value they put it in a slab for $$ to keep it in that grade. If I were you...I wouldn't send them in...if you must have them slabbed...send them to ANACS and don't worry about NGC anymore...ANACS isn't going to charge you an arm and leg to get coins graded and they are fast too on the 5 day service...don't use the slower service...then it will take 3 months. Speedy
banny - NCS is a conservation service, primarily they should be used when you have coins with unsightly toning or dirt on them but are otherwise gradeable coins. The idea is that after you have NCS conserve a coin - then you send it on to NGC to have it graded and slabbed. NCS can however be used to have an ungradeable coin, like one that has been harshly cleaned or one that has damage, authenticated. Normally this would only be done with a coin of significant value. But you need to understand - NCS will NOT assign a net grade to the coin like ANACS does. An NCS grade will be something like AU Details - Cleaned - and that's it. An ANACS net grade will be like AU Details/Cleaned - Net EF40. But in both cases the coin will be slabbed. What I would suggest is this - pic out the coins you wish to have slabbed, post high quality pics of them here on the forum and ask for opinions on what you should do or what grading company you should send them to. It might just save you a good bit of money and some heartache.
