Heya everyone! Just wanted to share another one of most recent additions. The 1803 Kettle Token. Sorry, the color and lighting is a bit off, was having some issues with the camera! All comments and more than welcome! - Ryan -
They were the Chinese counterfeits of their day, and of course the British authorities turned a blind eye, because they were not really quite through with America. The final battles of the Revolution were fought during the War of 1812, which asserted American independence.
Not really, these were made as counters or game pieces not counterfeits and were clearly marked by their maker. There were other makers of counters and game pieces as well. One of the most prevalent was Laur of Germany.
Very nice Kettle token, Ryan! I think that one is better than any of the ones I have. One reference I have lists 12 variations of Kettle tokens, and I think yours is Ket-3. Let me know if it is 25mm in diameter and if the edge is plain. I have a little background info also if you are interested.
I have one just like that, I got it from my grandfather when I started collecting coins as a kid more than 50 years ago. Are they worth anything?
Friend o’ mine just acquired something similar. Different date, though, and his doesn’t seem to be a token...
