Neither am I. The coin has that fuzzy look of a counterfeit. Here is a genuine example I sold a year or so ago. This dark color is typical of the what the counterfeiters put on their creations more deceptive. I have my doubles about the 1989 American Silver Eagle too. Let me get the word out to you guys. This dark, crusty color is not good for silver. I know that "crusty" is all the rage these days, but advanced collectors don't like. When it reaches this stage, it is classified as environmental damage. I am quite sure that the TPGs will usually concur. You should never pay a premium for such coins. In fact you should get them at a discount. If this look is really your thing, please bear this in mind before you part with your hard earned money.
I'm glad I'm not alone in questioning these coins. The Trade looks really suspicious, and the coloring of the other two caused me to raise an eyebrow (or two).
It appears at least some of the coins are counterfeits; the T$1 in particular is questionable. All coins posted were also harshly cleaned and re-toned really dark, so they won’t grade at any grading company. Also note that a 100+ year old coin should have a different look than any modern ASE.
The trade dollar Is the only one I'm not 100% sure about but it doesn't matter right now, The peace dollar and the ASE have been tested and are genuine,As for the ASE, It was NOT harshly cleaned and then re-toned; My granddad had carried this coin around with him from mint state until the state it is in now. He was killed in a plane crash several years ago and this passed on to me in this condition, he never did anything to it except carry it around in his pocket till the day he died. And I'm not going to submit these for grading, they are family heirlooms without much value to anybody other than me.
I'm sorry that you have your doubts about this, I know for a fact that it is genuine. and I didn't pay any price to obtain this, got it when my grandfather died, I wouldn't pay anything more for silver of this color than I thought it was worth anyway.
