Im hearing some rumors and dont know if anyone can confirm it or not but word floating around in coin land is there will be substantially less LP4's minted. Im not really talking about the 2 mint rolled sets for $8.95 but just the regular buisness strike cents. Word is it could be as much as 50-65% of LP1 buisness strike. Does anyone else know if this is true or can confirm if there will be some numbers thrown out soon? Thanks in advance as always and Happy Thanksgiving early everyone!!!!
Below are the mintage's just for the initial offering of the four Lincolns. Just based on this, my answer would have to be no. The fourth and final redesigned 2009 Lincoln cent launched in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Nov. 12. By the following Sunday and according to the latest US Mint sales report, 153,427 of the two-roll sets were scooped up by collectors. Crunching the numbers and moving the decimal point, that is 15.3 million pennies. During the same initial days following the launch of the previous two pennies, 15.2 million of the third Professional Life cents sold, and 20 million of the second Rail Splitter pennies sold. In contrast, it took almost two weeks for collectors to purchase 9.6 million of the first 2009 Lincoln Birthplace cents — although these set the demand tone for the next three cents when the Mint unexpectedly stopped selling them.
A week following release of LP1 the box of 50 rolls were selling for $225. LP2 sold for $180 a week after release. LP4 is selling for $75-90, a week after. Doesn't look like a short supply, in fact prices are lower for LP4 than any of the other releases, one week after release.
Heck.. I have 6 Boxes of the LP3 All early Dated ( The DD Came from these dates) and can't get rid of them.. No Buyers at 14.99 on EBAY.. Had great Luck w/ the LP1.. Did pretty good on the LP2 .. Am not even buying the LP4 to sell.. Just for my Collection.. Anybody want some LP3's...Please...LOL
I hear what you are saying NMBSURFER... I just dont know what the final mintages for these will look like. The figures for sales after the first week are close to LP3 and less than LP2 so these MAY, I say MAY carefully be interesting to watch. I know I ordered mine the day they went on sale from the Mint- two sets... and mine are backordered until at least 11/23, I kinda get a feeling there wont be as many of these made in the end as LP2 or LP3 (Im talking business strike, general circulation cents).
I ordered 2 LP4 sets for my collection, I'll get a Presidency 50 roll box and put it away also. The local coin store is stuck with several 50 roll boxes of all four cents, They do not have any 2 roll LP1 sets they are the hardest ones to get I sold all of mine on Ebay.
I ordered three sets of the LP4 and received last week an email stating that they are back ordered. Anyone else get that message?
I ordered mine the same day and there also on back order. Must have been a surprise to the mint that people would want them on the sale date.
I subscribed for my LP4's and got the same ' backordered' message and a shipping date of 11-27-2009. Say, what will the mint do with my subscription orders next year, ship the 2010's?
Call me a fool or whatever you want, but I got a feeling the LP4 mintage might be a pleasant surprise. I think they are going to be somewhat lower mintage wise considering lp1-3 flooded the market with cents for 2009 so the mint might have made significantly fewer lp4's. We'll see with time if this feeling is correct. Im still waiting for mine to ship, they are on backorder too and I ordered them the day they went on sale.
Good point Justndav76. I've been findind more and more LP2's, LP3's, and LP1's in that order in the last four weeks. But don't you think the mint has to make enough LP4's to make and or break their profit margin. This might call for just as many millions of cents as the previous designs. Only my thoughts.
If there is any less mintage it's like asking if you want to If there is any less mintage it's like asking if you want two bullits through your head or three. In the end it ain't going to matter much. With mintages anywhere near the others it will not matter. There will be plenty for everone for a long time to come.

This sort of story happens almost every year. However with all the different types now the horror stories of distributions, amounts minted, all the new errors found, etc are a little behind the usual ones. I always wonder if I'm the only one that sees these reports and stories every year. Then as all these coins begin appearing in change, it's almost time for the next years similar stories to come out. I think this time I'll start one about the 2010 Lincoln Cents with his wife on the reverse. And a IL under the date for Illinois for the new Mint there. :thumb:
Well, it looks like my gut feeling may have been right. Seems like with everything that has been put out there the LP4 may very well have the lowest mintage of any of the four new cents this year.
Well in either case, I'm saving my LP1's-LP4's for posterity. You all may laugh at me when you see what I did but I gaurantee you they'll be as pristine in 25 years as they are now. The boxes and plastic tray have suffered little and should spring right back. In case you can't figure out what I did, I vacuum sealed them. No air, no chemical reaction, no nuttin'. In fact I've done this to all my coins and proof sets and comemmoratives.
