Troll, Should have known you were into something good. Great box. And what an opportunity brewing with that banker's grandmother. Hope they give you a good shot at it. PS: It is my understanding you may have the full set of Kennedys, perhaps more than once. How tough is it to find a 70-D in circulation. Willie
Yep, I keep one full set (and upgrade as I can) and the 70 D is the only business strike that I've never found in circulation (I've found the 76S silver business strike, the 87P, 87D, and all of the 2002-2005P's & D's). I know the 70D can be found because I've talked to a couple of people who found one, but I never have. It is definately THE key to the circulation strikes set and I finally just went and bought one this past year. The hole in my Dansco album was just driving me crazy.
Struggling through a terrible bag of halves; listening to ROBTV with the left ear; a baseball game with the right; but found a new first: A 1996 Canadian Twonie or Doubloon!? >>2 Dollar Coin - About 5 years ago the 2 Dollar bill was replaced by a coin in 1996. The 2 leading contenders for a slang term were the "Twonie" or "Doubloon".<< If you are the one who took out every other keeper, and left a Twonie, you know who you are! Willie
I got a 2004 Keelboat nickel today from the vending machine today, probably one Dan put into circulation. Thanks, Dan !
I just started collecting. Yesterday I went to the bank and got 5 nickel rolls. Found a 1942 in the lot. I wonder if it have been in Germany since the end of WW II !!!
after reading a few of your messages they reminded me of the guy who runs the cafateria down here at work. he went to the bank for a few rolls of dimes for his cash register, would you believe it two of them were all silver! wish i was in line at the bank behind him.
This is a guy you need to get in good with. See if you can get him to hold coins like these for you. He'll never check dates and the like (so don't count on finding him finding you a 1914D Lincoln in change - see http://www.cointalk.org/thread9277-went-to-a-coin-show.html), but anybody who deals with change and cash on a regular basis quickly recognizes silver coins and silver certificates. Buy his soda for him every now and again. Help him to remember how nice a guy you are, and that he wants to be your friend. Now my wife did check dates for me on coins she got at work, but then she got "benefits" of her own from the deal. (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
It is worth about $1.60 US at the current exchange rate, so don't complain too much. I'll trade you clad US halves for $2 Canadians for any time
Most of that was "tongue in cheek" to call attention to a new find, which personally I had never heard of. That's part of the fun. However, another point is I went through two thousand picked-over halves to find it, so searching halves is not always a slam dunk. I would gladly give you the twonie for loaning me an unsearched bag of halves. Willie
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have found several of these $2 CAN coins, along with a fair amount of other things that don't belong in half dollar rolls. I have found both a Mexican 500 Pesos and 1000 Pesos. I have two 50 New Pence peices from Great Britian, four .50 casino slot tokens, and a few other thigns that I can't remember off the top of my head. I save all interesting finds from roll searching. Even if they're not valuable, I still think that they're kinda cool.
If a 1942 nickel has no mint mark, or a small one to the right of the building on the reverse, it is made of nickel. If it has a large mint mark above the dome on the reverse, it is made of a silver alloy (about 35% silver).
Today, I got a 1960 and 1964 silver dime from the Home Depot. First time in three years I got silver in circulation.
Looked at 4 boxes of cents and 2 boxes of nickels. I found 46 wheats including a 1916, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1941-S and 1952-S plus a 1920 King George V Canadian penny. But that's not all! I found 33 1955 or older nickels including a 1943-S (Silver), 1939-S, a Dateless Buffalo, a 1936-D in G, and get this, A 1915 BUFFALO IN VF AND A 1910 V NICKEL IN G/VG!
Wow... really nice finds. I'm going to the bank today to get some more new coin to look through. I woke up yesterday at 9am my time in Arizona, and I have not yet gone to sleep. It's 6:20 right now. I was rolling pennies ALL NIGHT. I finally finished!!!!! Wanna know what the total number of pennies that I rolled was? 150,500 (or $1,505.00). I am really quite sick of rolling pennies at this point. And I'm a little tired.... okay goodnight! ~AJ
