Picked this up last week as a sort of getting into the hobby piece. I am new to all of this and was just curious what everyone thought. The images are slightly out of focus. The reverse was taken with a flash. So teach me something:smile

I'd say for just starting out, that is an absolutely gorgeous coin!
Here is a tip for your photos though. Do not use the flash, at all. Get two halogen bendy-neck lamps, (About $10 each at Wal Mart). Put a white sheet of paper underneath your coin. Make sure your coin isn't in anything, like a 2x2 holder or an airtite. When removing the coin from the 2x2 or airtite, make sure you touch the rims only, and use gloves. Once you have the coin under the light, and over the white sheet of paper, set the white balance accordingly, make sure the white sheet of paper is exactly as it is in person.

I personally use three light sources, but I think you just have to experiment and see what is right.
Good luck with your pictures and collecting!

Thanks for great info. Sounds like Ill be buying some lights and gloves. Will get some practice with some plain circulated modern coins.
