What do you think it grades?
Do you think that gash would keep it from being graded?
Worth it to grade her? The coin was my grandfathers, I want to protect and be able to see it (why im considering getting it graded) Also, an NGC edge view would cover up that gash nicely :)

If I shouldn't get it graded(or it wont grade), how should I display the coin so that I can hold it and not worry about damage?

    thanks for the help

I think that might be a planchet flaw, I am not sure if that would stop it from being graded, but in any case I think that one of the tpgs has a genuine holder, even if it is pmd.

The coin is damaged so it would not slab in a regular holder. Even if it wasn't damaged, given the condition of the coin I wouldn't submit it.

If you want to save and protect it just get an Air-Tite holder for it and enjoy the rememberance.

    Thank you for your input.
Strikes me as odd, almost all the gold coins my grandfather had are damaged in some way. From jewelery to obvious gold "testing" on the FACE of the damn coin. Everything else he had was perfect, clocks, cars, etc... just seems odd he would collect a few random damaged gold coins. Perhaps he got a great deal on them? I wish he was still around to tell me the story of them :goof:

Please let this be a lesson to all of you older folks who want to pass down family treasures! Right now, before you get old and senile and cant remember anything- Go put little numbers on important things in your collection, then get a logbook and write a little blurb about the item. This way when you get too old to remember, or in case something happens to you the others in your life who will get the coins will know what you were thinking when you bought them, how they came to you, etc.
