i got this off ebay for 40$. it was graded ms63 by the denver west mint. im thinking about sending it to pcgs. tell me what you guys think and sorry for more bad pics. this plastic holder in is also kind of scratched up.
If you don't me helping, I use florescent with added sunlight from my windows to create a brighter, more white picture. It seems you have a lot of "yellow" most likely from incandescent lighting. Also, try using multiple lighting, it might help. Often i use the bathroom, plenty of lighting it always seems. The pictures seem rather dark to accurately judge grade. Hopefully I help a little
It looks to be artificially toned and my expectation is that it would not receive a grade at a legitimate grading company.
I agree, I am almost positive that this coin has artificial toning and will not be slabbed by a major grading company. Sorry. If you can, you might want to consider returning this coin...I would. When purchasing toned coins on eBay, I would recommend only buying PCGS or NGC slabbed coins. There are just way to many doctored coins on there.
I have to agree with Mark, the first pics I wasn't really sure, but after the second set of pics I would say AT.
Stick to coins that are graded by a good grading company, rather than buying coins from a crappy grading company, and thinking about sending them to PCGS or NGC of wherever. It saves you money, and it is something that should be done in the future.
I do not believe either PCGS or NGC will slab/grade it. The toning is too suspect. There is something wrong on the obverse between the hair and "PLURIBUS UNUM". I don't like the whitish areas and the dark green spots ( almost like PVC damage rather than toning). Jim
Hey guys.. Do you have a link or thread on how tell AT.. I have found coins that clearly heated very yellow.. but these Purples and reds.. What do they put on them.. And why if any collector would want to punch them in the nose?? I see it as a bit of a crime against history to deface a coin like that.. You should return it and tell him so...
I don't think there is one thread that has all the information you are looking for because being able to determine AT has many different factors. Once you have seen enough, you just get a feel for it. But, there are tons of threads here on CT that discuss it...many of them at great length. So, the information is there but you will have to do a little searching to get it all.
