Hi all! I recently bought this coin, and am a bit confused by the obverse. It appears to read something along the lines of [...]NINVS AVG AFM[...], which is an obverse legend I have never seen before for Antonius Pius. I'm wondering if the coin isn't Antoninus Pius after all, or maybe it's provincial? Any thoughts? Thanks!
Probably a Providentia reverse type. Something like this one (there were multiple issues of this reverse type and in the absence of legible inscriptions, I don't think you'll be able to narrow it down).
Nice coin - nicer than my Antoninus Pius Providentia sestertius. Note the differences in the portraits to your Marcus Aurelius - although they are similar, Marcus has a longer beard, curlier/bushier hair and bulgier eyeball. Antoninus Pius Æ Sestertius (155-156 or 156-157 A.D.) Rome Mint AN[TONINVS AVG PIVS PP IMP II], laureate head rt. / [TR POT XIX COS IIII] S-C across fields, Providentia standing left, pointing at large globe at feet and holding vertical sceptre. RIC 946 or 966 (XIX /XX). (22.00 grams / 31 mm) I think I need to upgrade this one...
