I am going to show step photos of 9 Jefferson Nickels, and I want you to tell me how many of them have 5FS (Full Steps) using the NGC grading standard. Unlike the previous thread, I want you to vote for the 5FS by selecting every coin that you think has 5FS. If you think that none qualify for full steps there is an option for that as well. For example if you think that coins #2 & #6, you would select the radio buttons next to Coin #2 & Coin #6, leave all the others blank and submit your entry.

Remember that NGC uses two different step designations 5FS & 6FS and unlike PCGS, they do not allow shallow marks across the steps with the exception of Reverse of 38 coins which are allowed marks. Date/mm and grades will be revealed after everyone has had a chance to participate.

Do you wanna expand on that? I mean everyone else is choosing at least 3.

I'm going to post a bit more detailed explanation on each coin in this thread before voting. It's like a worksheet.

    1. Step 1 blurs at column 3. Step 2 blurs just right of (column) C3. Step three has a minor blur between C2 and C3 and on minor blur right of C3. Step 4 has minor blurring between C2 and C3 and another under C3. Step 5 had 4 blurs between C2 and C3 and a major blur under C3. I really can't make out any more than a hint of a sixth step.
SO I have to go with no on 1.

    2. This is a good place to explain that I look at the "groove" above the step when describing the step. The first step being the on level with the top of the outside of the steps.
Step 1 has hit and miss definition above the top step at the level just above the base of the columns. The groove below is strong, but I call that step 2.
    Step 2 Very strong.
    Step 3 Complete
    Step 4 Complete
    Step 5 Complete
    Step 6 50%
So I would say 4 full steps, but not 5.

    3.
    Step 1 50-75% complete
    Step 2 Complete
    Step 3 Complete
    Step 4 Complete
    Step 5 Complete
    Step 6 50%
Very similar to 2, 4 steps, but not 5.

    4.
    Step 1 <50%
    Step 2 Complete.
    Step 3 Complete
    Step 4 Complete
    Step 5 blurs under C3
    Step 6 50%
    No.

    5.
    Step 1 <10%
    Step 2 Complete
    Step 3 Complete
Step 4 Minor blurs at C2 and C3
    Step 5 Complete
    Step 6 25%
    No.

    6.
    Step 1 <50%
    Step 2 Blur C4
    Step 3 Complete but weak
    Step 4 Complete but weak
    Step 5 Complete but weak
    Step 6 25%
    No.

    7.
    Step 1 <10%
    Step 2 Complete
    Step 3 Complete but weak
    Step 4 Complete but weak
    Step 5 Complete but weak
    Step 6 10%
    No.

    8.
    Step 1 20%
    Step 2 Complete
    Step 3 Complete
    Step 4 Complete
    Step 5 Complete
    Step 6 25%
    No.

    9.
    Step 1 25%
    Step 2 Complete
    Step 3 Complete
    Step 4 Complete
    Step 5 Complete
    Step 6 80%
No. But this is the best of the lot.

Note. The standard lighting angles may hide definition of the sixth step groove in shadows in most photos. A little tilt might make it visible in hand.

I’m not good enough to say just from these photos. I’ve got my glasses on and I’m zooming in on my phone, but what I’d really like to do is have them in hand to tilt and rotate a bit under a loupe. I’m leaning toward none. Possibly #3.

Wait, is that just #9 or you think ALL NINE are 5FS?

3 & 9 were the only two that I thought got 5fs...the rest had small marks or breaks in the steps
