The visual impression was less than desirable

    Numis-Phantom On the Prowl

It was mid-morning and 2 customers were inside the Gaithersburg Exchange, the floors were filthy, the displays were smeared with countless fingerprints. Stacks of supplies laid loose upon the unclean floors and it was 9 minutes before anyone uttered a single word to me. A man selling some Confederate Material was turning and looking over his shoulder at me obviously thinking his goods were valuable and not trusting my presence.
The entire area was cluttered with mess and a general stench filled the musky room with the dirty smell of uncleaned clothes. The entry was situated with a bullion exchange room in the front that gave the impression that it had not been cleaned in years. After a woman uttered the words "someone will be with you when they can", I timed the response and found myself walking out the door after 2 complete rounds in the store with out the utterance of may I help you?

The Numis-Phantom gives this shop a rating of 0.5 of 10 possible points.

lmao! That was funny. Partly because it was your first post. Partly because of how you wrote it. Partly over how you assume we know where this is at. And partly because a place like this exists! lol

I don't have any idea where this is, but I won't be looking them up. Thanks! :thumb: :D

Here is a previous post on Gaithersburg. You can also do a search at the top of the CT page & type in Gaithersburg.

I do not know the company personally.

Gives new meaning to "filthy lucre".

Since I live in the area I have a general idea where the store is.
There's another store in Laurel that also appears to be a dump.
They have there fingers into so many "pies" that there's items of all types shoved wherever there's room (or not).
(BTW, we're talking the Wash, DC area.)

    Suggestion to the OP:
Stop in at "Coins of the Realm" also known as "Universal Stamps" on Rockville Pike in Rockville.
Very clean; very professional; very attentive.

    WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
We do need a smily face thing that says that although a personal touch is nice.
When I first started to read your post the first thing I thought of was a professional writter. If not, you should consider that for a profession. Oddly enough if you were in the Chicago area I would know the name of that place since I too ran into that situation. Even funnier was when an employee at a coin store walked away from me saying "Sorry, got to go, it's lunch time"

I rarely take the time to post a comment like this, but I hope to help others avoid the problems I've had in January.
I strongly recommend that you DO NOT do business with Gaithersburg Coin Exchange. The folks I dealt with there lied to me, cheated me and then spoke to me like I was dirt. I wouldn't waste my time posting this if it weren't true. There are other reputable dealers in the DC area that you can work with, for sure.
    Caveat emptor!!
