Both really unusual for my bank...some customer wrapped quarters and a bunch of halves! I'm excited, knock on wood, lol I don't want to jinx it
The ten rolls on the right look fun...the ten on the left, maybe not so much lol! Some things you just don't notice until you get back in your car Hoping it was just someone looking for silver or maybe just someone who's very VERY frugal lol! Especially considering that empty rolls are free at the banks. What a strange awkward way to open rolls and then use them again too!
Well that re-taped bundle of 10 rolls above turned out to be a really fun lesson of 'don't judge a book by the cover' actually! I'm thinking it was a lazy person maybe just looking for silver or possibly it really was someone who's just really frugal with the paper and was turning in their change jar coins... There were a whole lot of very nice MS from a bunch of different years... Some were really stunning!
Some good advice right there and more to compound on from what I've said in the past. Just because the rolls are searched, doesn't mean that they've been searched for what you search for. I'm very thorough such as you but I know there are people that only search for wheaties, etc.
They don't show up much at my Chase branches, in fact almost never. But they would let me place an order for a box. It's just not my main interest. If you're a Chase customer most branches will allow you to place an order for a full box of almost anything, if it's available from the coin vending service. The credit unions I go to usually have halves but I don't go looking for them much. The credit union I go to is still limiting the number of rolls per customer but since I almost never go there but have been a customer for 25 years or so they will give me 10 or 20 rolls if I ask them nicely
I'm seeing that some people are now finding lots of Tuskegee enders and or whole rolls...even though my favorite branch is only a few miles from the Denver Mint I've only come across one single Tuskegee so far. Just came home with these tonight...wish me W's or Tuskegees!!!
Picked up today... My credit union had halves and the two rolls of nickels where in the tellers drawer and looked absolutely stunning on the ends... Then I had to run another errand as soon as I got these home and couldn't resist stopping at my favorite Chase branch just before closing. The quarter roll look nice and shiny on the ends so I'm hoping for some Tuskegee and the new Washington crossing the Delaware! The small dollar rolls I asked about because one of the tellers was using a paperclip (cringing and lol'ing) to pry apart two small dollars lol! She told me that her and the teller next to her had spent a couple hours prying apart small dollars in order to roll them. She showed me the pile on the counter, it looked like a few hundred small dollars with bunches of them stuck together lol...possibly a dried soda spill on the pile from the customer. That was nice of them to count them for him! I couldn't resist grabbing a few rolls just out of curiosity of the ones they had already rolled up lol.
An update on my "sticky" rolls from above... I finally went through those 4 "sticky" rolls of small dollars. It wasn't soda or something it was some kind of adhesive, like rubber cement. Those poor tellers spent hours separating them to roll them lol. Some were still so sticky they were basically glued inside the rolls. The highlights... This 2008 P that is entirely covered with the cement (it's currently in the acetone) but I can see it's in beautiful condition. With a mintage of just over 1.8 million it's lower mintage than the 'W' quarters A Kennedy that looks to be pretty nice as well (also currently in the acetone), it's actually worth something even in MS66! A 2000P that's almost as nice as one from a mint roll! A couple unfortunate dings but it is absolutely beautiful. I'll post the acetoned results later!
Got myself a weekend box! My favorite teller at Chase told me out of the blue she would order a box of halves if I like...she remembered me asking about them a couple times but my Chases here in the Denver area NEVER have halves...going to consider that for sure! Wish me some Washingtons crossing the Delaware!!! And maybe some nice Tuskegee!
Had to run a quick errand...haven't even started the other quarters above lol! And figured what else do I need?... More quarters!!! Stopped at chase and got yet even more of a nice looking variety! I even see some slightly older ones in amazing condition! Then I went fishing for an hour...Caught and released a couple trout and... It's almost 90 in Denver...now back home to lunch and search for quarters I don't want to release
An update on my sticky roll of dollars posted above... Some kind of adhesive. Had a slightly green tinge to it... Acetone for a couple days which took off about half of it. 90% alcohol for a day which took off more...some gentle q-tip treatment with the alcohol and then back in the acetone for another day and then more q-tipping with the acetone. Then a swish in the alcohol again and then distilled water... It was actually a kind of a strangely fun challenge but I'm weird like that lol! Unfortunate heavy marks were revealed on the 2008-P with the super low mintage of 1.82 million. 2015-D Position A Kennedy looks pretty nice but not nearly as nice as I was hoping. BEFORE... AFTER...
Well I went to my favorite Chase today, it's only a few miles from the Denver Mint... I asked them if they've been experiencing a recent coin shortage...and they looked me like I was CRAZY. Lol!!! Because some people here on CT and other forums have been run into trouble getting rolls during last couple weeks, including me when I went to the Credit Union of Denver last week. They've known me forever at this Chase...told them that the Credit Union of Denver is claiming there's a shortage too...my Chase teller friends had literally no idea about it and happily offered anything I wanted Not only did she grab a few of the shiniest she could find but she told me they had a couple slightly older rolls sitting out of a box in the safe for a long time and offered me those too. I got some shiny shiny for tonight!!! ...Wish me some W's in these!!! You can see the two older rolls are slightly grey and have clearly been experiencing some compression for quite a while.
