I hardly ever even see my money. Between direct deposit, credit cards, debit cards,
and checks, I do not do direct withdrawls, it could be some time that I come across a state quarter never mind mercury dimes.

I do. When I get change, I look at it, and if there's potential to be added to one of my collections, I put it in my right front pocket. Otherwise, I put it in my left front pocket. Later when I get home I'll check the coins that are in the right front pocket, and if they're not collectible they go back into the left front pocket.

It gets worse. When I want to buy coffee or something out of the vending machine and all I have are dollar bills, I'll put the bill into the machine, then I hit the return button. Instead of returning the bill, it gives me four quarters change for the dollar. I check those four quarters for collectibles, and then I'll buy coffee with two quarters that aren't collectible.

I haven't looked at my change since about 1968.

I'm currently checking every coin that goes through the household before it is spent. Occasionally there will be something mildly interesting [like a recent 1943 badly corroded steel cent or a silver dime], but mostly it's to fill up Whitman coin folders [just for the fun of it since I know they will never be worth much more than face value]. I usually do his while watching football on the weekends, and the two activities go very well together. One thing I've noticed is that very few D and S mint coins show up around here for any denomination or year. I end up doing a lot more upgrading than hole-filling anymore.

Not only do i check all my change but recently i started checking my paper money as well, for star notes etc.
It's funny when you get to the point were you don't put change in the parking meter or pay for a soda before you inspect it. :D

    I always check my change.

    Sometime I try not to...

    But just can't help myself.

I look at every coin, as well as notes.

    :) :)

i also look at the paper money. to check the signatures, place of production, star note and seiral numbers, the 12 federal banks, the pictures in general, what year?. and so forth. maybe i am a paper note collector too. but i don't collect them. i can't afford it.

I check every coin which comes in my possession. What a habit it has become  Too bad I never find anything worth saving.

--I wish my wife did the same. When she leaves a plie of coins on the counter, I'll take a look through and sometimes find something. (a silver roosevelt, buffalo nickel, etc)....... It makes me wonder where she gets her change and what I've missed when the coins don't make it to the counter

    change

I always check my change since I got back into collecting. It drives my wife crazy. I save all the state quarters and westward nickles. I figure even if they don't go up in value i'll have a nice stash of quarters for a future rainy day! :)

GDJMSP, if you're being serious I was wondering something. I always notice the beauty of a eal nice uncirc in change, do you still do that? To me that almost seems like it goes along with being a collector.

I was being quite serious - I quit collecting circulated US coins in 1968 and never looked back. But to answer your other question - yeah I notice when I get I get a nice Unc in change, but that's about it.

Sveral years ago I gave up collecting US coins completely. Now I only collect world coinage.

You don't check your pocket change for world coinage ? ;)

I get an occasional Canadian coin, but I seem to miss out on all the gold ducats.

Same here every thing is inspected including bills. I found a star 20 two days ago that I had floded in half but not creased. Thank god I had a few bills in my pocket. The serials are way up there but the bill is crisp
