Too distracting from the details of the strike. The coin’s features are just lost to the eye. I’m not at all a blaze white all the time collector, but this one goes beyond what I can tolerate. Rick L.
You like it and that's all that matters really. I'm not a fan of it on such a small coin, it's just not much to look at because the coin is small, but I like it. hopefully it looks this good when you get it in hand. my experience is they almost never look like the pictures, exactly. I just wish it was a franklin half or a morgan dollar. LOL
There are some very nicely toned coins, I admire and would purchase. I have a tendency to pass on most toned coins simply because they are faked and/or unattractive.
I think it's every bit that. I'll bet CAC would think it, too. Technically, there's nothing to complain about in this one. Certainly, I got good eyesight, it's not the expression the engraver intended to achieve. By that I mean our eyes are moving through it in a way other than his skills tried to dictate. Colors will do that every time, because they're the more captivating eye-magnet than detail, which, of course, was the only element the engraver had to control our eye movement. These colors and pattern take our eyes on a virtual sleigh ride. And I just love it. What am I going to tell you?
Haha, I can appreciate that. There is a guy named "Ricko" at CU that despises any color on coins. Although we disagree, I think he is a pretty cool guy.
Ricko is the most anti-toning guy I have ever encountered on the coin forums (he posted here once). Only Weimar White has his beat, and V Kurt Bellman probably takes the bronze medal in that category. He hangs out on the NGC forum.
