Hey All!! I got a few Coins from a friend for Melt Price.. No Big Deal on the dates I thought .. But then When she gave them to me..VAM?? Any Help.. I don't see a bunch of Peace VAM's .. Also A Morgan w/ Crack and what Looks like a Strike Through? Thanks, ( Has Anyone noticed that some of the chats around here have been getting a bit heated? Been an odd couple of weeks... Maybe its me....) Cheers to ALL!!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/latherland/4115607076/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/latherland/4115607738/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/latherland/4115608320/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/latherland/4114839273/in/photostream/
The die cracks, and clashes are pretty common, and aren't going to be key indicators. A close up pic of the O mint mark is going to be crucial from identification because most of the VAMs for that date are based around the mm. So if you can post a close up of the O mm, and the date too.
I think These may be Better Pictures.. The Strike Or Ghost on the Reverse of the Morgan is Better then the Pic. The Peace Dollars are just ones that I know little about as far as VAM goes...They are both "D"
The Morgan is the oval O variety, but without a real close up I couldn't be sure which one. Also check for overlapping reeding, like in VAM 24 VAMworld - 1884-O VAM-24
Thanks I will look.. I need to get my scanner connected again so I can get a better close up.. Thanks for all the help.. I look on Vam World and another site but it can be hard to find the right item.. So many VAM's When they say VAM 24.. Would that be a HOT 100? Say VAM 1 through VAM 100 Are the HOT 100 or are the Hot 100 Just the Random HOT coin of the Moment? I am expanding my collection to so called "errors" And still new too all the VAM's Here are some of the others I have found .. A VAM 6 .. Hot 100 I think. Thanks again...
Each Morgan date has it's own VAMs starting with VAM 1 (usually the normal variety), and each additional variety get's it's own VAM number. Slight sub varieties are given letters starting with A, for example VAM 9A. For instance: 1878 P: Has 232 VAMs (starting with 1 and going to 232) *not including sub-varieties 1878 CC: Has 29 VAMs (starting with 1 and going to 29) * not including the sub varities. Each Morgan date/mm is going to have it's own set of VAMs. The Top 100, Hot 50, and Hit list 40 are considered the most popular, or desirable VAMs. Top 100 Morgan VAMs Hot 50 Morgan VAMs HitList40 VAMs
No problem. Check VAM 2 for the 1921 D, VAMworld - 1921-D VAM-2B looks like your example matches, the second die on the s break seems to be slighter weaker in your example though, but the die break in the M is the key identifier.
Btw, is the 1889 an 1889 O? If so please post pics of the reverse. That is strong doubling on the date, and looks like VAM 6 (Which is one of the Top 100 VAMs). VAMworld - 1889-O VAM-6
