Hi, I have a set of Chinese silver Pandas 1989-2009 still in the mint packaging and I've been very apprehensive to remove them from the mint plastic and holders because I would then have no way to prove the coins are authentic.I want to submit them to PCGS for grading but I've never been thru the process, I am getting in touch with Heritage to see how they can help since they were recommended by PCGS for submission.Has anybody been thru this process before.Either using a dealer or submitting them yourself. Your help is greatly appreciated. Randy.B.
Personally I don't think it's worth it to submit since most pandas are worth about $20 and it cost about $14 per coin to be slabbed by PCGS plus you have to pay shipping.
If you want to submit them DO IT YOURSELF!!! Dealers charge extra and do nothing but delay the process 10x what it needs to be. I would send pandas to NGC as they are easier on coins and pandas are ALMOST never pf/ms70s. I would also send it to NGC because ive had expearance dealing with them and they are GREAT. Answer any questions you may have, walk you though the whole thing etc. If you need help, dial the NGC number and extension 100, Sarah will help you with any problems you could encounter! Also, dont listen to this guy above me... pandas are worth A LOT more than 20$ and if they are nice grades they could be worth a ton more. Plus grading coins is not always about making money, some times its just nice to have the collection in a format you hold.
Boxerchip thanks for the info. I was going to a dealer, I'm glad you let me know what would happen. Also about the $20 thing that's ridiculous.also being slabbed I know they are real.
If you want to submit your coins yourself.... If you are a member of the ANA then you can be an associate member at NGC at no cost. This gives you submission privileges. You can join PCGS for something like $100 and become part of their collectors club. This gives you submission privileges & it also gets you four free submissions. You can get the details of both programs by simply calling them. They will sign you up pronto.
If you have any questions about whether you should submit a particular coin, then post a photo here first.
Well on ebay most of NGC pandas are selling for $25-$35, raw panda are selling for around $20. Unless you have a rare variety of panda coin, all I can say is good luck when you are selling and trying to recoup the cost of coins and certifications. http://www.pandacollector.com/silver-pandas-2.html have a price for silver pandas, i don't see panda that are worth tons more unless it's PR70, which is very hard to get. Watch the packaging/coins carefully. I had some '86 Gold pandas, and green pvc plasticizer started accumulating on 2 of the coins. On gold it is easy to remove with little problems, but silver could be a different story. Jim
