No one seems to have heard of ICCS so I figured I would post some examples of their STRICT grades. These are beautiful maple leaves that NGC would have at a 69 or 70 but ICCS puts them at 67. You will note some marks on the packaging, not the coin and a few stray pieces of fiber from the packaging if you look really close. Looks like a decent grading service but time usually tells with the Top Grading Services and how they grade over the long term.
I am not an expert, just someone trying to be one some day... but I think they have been around for a while... they are quite well known in the grading of coins from Canada.
Heard this one too many times, that's what inspired me to do this. I found them because I collect Maple leaves with privy marks and someone had a coin by them with a privy mark on ebay. I got the coin and was shocked with the accuracy of the grade as far as how I thought grades SHOULD be. Just picked up 8 more that are on the way, all sp67s. There are a few sp68s on ebay but they are asking around 380 and I dont think they are worth that with the 67s at around 40$
I've only ever seen them for rare Canadian coins. Does anyone know if they grade the coins of other nations? Also, why do they put them in that flip? Seems kind of chintzy.
No idea why the put them in the flips, or refuse to get a website.... all I know is they grade coins really well. Eh hem! and are you saying my tulip privy maple is not rare? supa rare!
ICCS is a family business.\ They do not even have a web site. When it comes to Canadian coins, they are top notch. They grade the hardest of any TPG even PCGS. I also find the flips kinda annoying as well. I have a few of them, and I still cannot take a decent pic. LOL
Is there a way to tell.... I sure dont know off the top of my head. With no website its hard to check too
The coins are sealed in a harder plastic inert material and then sealed inside the standard plastic flip. The standard outer flip likely contains PVC as ICCS states, "Have holder replaced if inner package/seal not intact."
ICCS is certainly highly respected in Canada, and a first pic for most Canadians when submitting coins. They do grade harder than PCGS or NGC, but the reason I don't submit to them is because most of my buyers are in the States. They don't trust anyone other than the top 2 there. I am also not a fan of the flimsy flip material, where the coin can roll around inside. And the lack of a website deters me as well.
The Canadian Dollars that I have seen in there holders look to be graded right, maybe even tougher than they should be.
If ICCS graded with usual plastic holders I would send 100% of my coins to them. they are strict as can be!
Speaking of their crappy holders, I got some new maples today and some of the inner holders were busted. Ive tried calling ICCS and they are not picking up... is this like a holiday up there or something? its 3pm in the middle of the week.... why would they not answer? GDI!
