Hello, this is my first post. My dad who passed away 33 years ago had some coins, though not in mint condition, that I inherited. Since I am not a coin collector, I have no real interest in them, so I am looking to sell them. I have one question about the 1900 Morgan Silver Dollar. I've been looking online about the Morgan Dollars and it seems the 1900 is a little more rare than the other years. The one I have is in good condition. Anyone know a ballpark figure they are going for? The other Morgans I have are years 1880 and 1921. I have also 3 of the peace silver dollars all 1922. Is there a good online site where I can learn more about what my coins and silver certificates are worth? I hate to sell them without some kind of knowledge what they're going for. Thanks.
hello and welcome to coin talk, I am sort of new myself to coin collecting but I would guess our silver dollar experts would prefer to see a photo of the coins, this is because minute differences in wear can mean big difference in values.
If it's possible try to post some pics. The condition/grade of the coin is one of the biggest factors in determining value. Numismedia is a good source for general prices, but you would have to know the grades first Morgan Dollars NumisMedia Price Guide-Good-MS60 Here's a pretty good site for grading Morgans: How To Grade Morgan Dollars Btw don't forget to check for Mint marks (they would be on the back of the coin under the wreath). The 1900 S would be the most expensive of the 1900 coins.
Carson City mintmarks ('CC' under the Eagle on the reverse) also tend to command higher premiums than those of other mints...
Hi, and thank you for your responses. I do plan on checking out the links that have been posted. I just scanned the Morgan SD and also a Silver Certificate that has a star before it's serial number, is there any significance to that compared to the others that I have, that don't have the star?
The 1900 is circulated, and it's pretty common date, so it's worth around $20. I'm not sure what the silver certificate's worth, hopefully one of the paper money guys will come along.
