I have a 1971D D penny in very good condition where the L in Liberty is practically missing. There is almost just a shadow of the L while the rest of the letters look fine. Does anyone know anything about it? Please use my e-mail to e-mail me. Thanks.

    First off, welcome to CT.

Without a picture, no one can tell you much of anything for sure. However, the odds are very good that the die had some grease on it when the coin was struck. It is actually fairly common and not worth much, if anything. You might be interested seeing this coin http://www.cointalk.com/t79051/. There is nearly no lettering left on it.
