I've had this coin since the early 70s, when I was a kid. I know it's one of the most common and least pricey of the series, but I would like your opinions about its grade. I'd call it EF or so, but have no idea which numerical grade (EF 45??) it would get. I'm an ancients collector, where technical grade is a secondary consideration. What grade would you assign it? Thanks so much!
Since I see luster in the protected areas, it grades at least EF-45. Chances are it’s AU-50 or 53. I would not go any higher than that.
Yeah, EF-45 seems like a reasonable grade. There is luster evident, but sufficient wear to preclude an AU grade. Realistically, on these coins, there isn't much difference in value between EF-AU. You're splitting hairs between EF-40 and 45, but I think this warrants a 45.
Not like grading an ancient coin is it? Lol I see this as a solid XF-45 with a decent shot at an AU-50. A very common date but it's clean and mostly mark free. A nice example but it's not ancient.
Overall, a nice, clean Morgan. I agree with the majority of posts that it looks like an EF, but I'm certainly not qualified to determine it's numerical grade.
I think grade would be secondary to the sentimental value, having had the coin as long as you have. I have a 1922 silver dollar that was my mom's birth year and handed down to me. Grade? I don't care as I'll never part with it.
