Greetings all, Went to the local coin show today and decided to get a 1950 D Jefferson for my collection. I found a guy who had three and picked this one out of the bunch. It caught my eye mostly because you can clearly see an outline of Jeffersons head on the back of the coin. I have seen this on other Jeffersons but this is the most noticible I have found. Not sure if it qualifies as an error or what? Is anyone familiar with this? Any added error value or worth less because of a weaker strike in areas? Any info is appreciated, thanks! J
Definitely not a struck thru. Possibly die deterioration as GhostDude stated. Could also be a clash die that was polished.
I may be using the term "struck through" incorrectly... Can you see what I am talking about though? almost like the obverse die hit so hard it left an impression or outline of his head on the back, is that considered ghosting? THANKS! J
Your pictures are a bit hard to see ...nice luster but a poor example of a 50 D. Now with that said not knocking this coin as it does have appeal to a true nickel collector. You should be able to pick up a very nice 50 -D MS/63 /64 for under $20.00.
Hi, It is a coin struck by a very worn die. It is not an error and to be truthful, your money would have been better spent purchasing a coin that was clear and well struck. Thanks, Bill

First let me say no ...you did not loose on the deal if you like what you purchased...but seems to me if the guy you purchased was an honest dealer he would of pointed out the differene and explained them to you. Because if he did he would of reassured himself a repeat customer....and not only that but your trust also!
