In my 20th Century Type Whitman album 9139, the quarters keep sliding out. Only the quarters slide, nothing else. Any recommendations on how to stop this foolishness? I don't mess with the album much at all, but when I pull it out to look, the quarters are no longer in place.
I would say just get a new old one then those I get for free at my LCS. The trouble your having that means the album is all worn out and its time to get a new one but others might have some ideas.
well.... you could buy a new page I suppose and replace that page for about $4.99 on Amazon, it's 9139-2, cheaper than replacing the album.. Short of this, you could I guess attempt, with distilled water so no contaminants being added, slowly dampening the hole edge while it's empty to get the board to expand a little around the edge and then let it dry and it might hold the coins a little tighter. you may wind up still needing to buy a replacement page, but that's where you're at now anyways. I've had luck running a damp qtip around the inner lip of the hole for a bit on much older albums. really depends on how far stretched out it is.if it's just a little bit, it will work. there also should be clear plastic slides to cover the coins in the pages. with the clear slides in place the coins shouldn't really fall out, they really can't. If you are missing the clear plastic slides, I think you could probably cut up a pack of clear currency holders (rigid ones) and make slides to fit your album, but I don't think they sell a replacement for the slides that come with the album.
I have that problem with my large cent folder from 1941, I just cut a little strip of paper a little bit longer than the hole is wide, and then lay it over top of the hole and press the cent down into the hole, that tightens it up enough usually and if you cut it the right size you won't see it around the edge of the coin...
It sounds like you're talking about one of the Whitman albums that has no plastic sliders, and only displays one face of the coin.
It has two clear slides. The quarters slide out and get in between the slide and the cardboard. I will try the dampening thing. Then replace the page. It is still odd that it's only that one section. Like I said, I don't mess around with it much, but when I do....I need a Dos Equis.
Yes, sorry I didn't realize the OP was talking about the folders that have sliding clear "windows"... Whoops
