Found this to be very interesting . Why would they list a working doubled hub, in the cherrypickers guide . The year is 1948, the coin was minted in Denver . Last, it's a Franklin half . Here's the write, from wexler site . 1948-D 50¢ WWHR-001 Doubled Working Hub Description: A strong spread NW shows on IGWT, the dots, UNITED, HALF DOLLAR, and the right side of the bell clapper. Die Markers: Obverse: The die markers will be different for each of the affected working dies. Reverse: The die markers will be different for each of the affected working dies. The same working hub doubling affected the reverse of the 1948 P-Mint half dollars.
Probably because: A strong spread NW shows on IGWT, the dots, UNITED, HALF DOLLAR, and the right side of the bell clapper.
Good question? Seems we are talking about two Hubs a reverse and an obverse. Variety Vista has 8 DDR's listed. 4 DDO's listed. 3 of those obverse DD have a reverse counterpart. @Rick Stachowski DDO1 / DDR2 DDO2 / DDR3 DDO3 / DDR7 Is Wexler trying to eliminate the above three as actual Doubled Dies?
Yep. That's what the message is, that the hub is doubled so there's gonna be a decent amount of dies showing this combined with different obverses and different die markers. He's saying they were barking up the wrong tree by going at dies to catalog as die variety and die markers as the doubling is on the hub and passed down to the dies.
No idea if it's in the cherry pickers guide I havent ever owned one of those.1961 Lincoln cent had a doubled master hub, also 1989 Lincoln cent. There's others.along they way and in other series.
I really don't know of any others. Rick do you know why the Master listings have disappeared from VV?
I was wondering the same . All are coin shows have been closed since the pandemic . Haven't seen Potter or Motley in over a year .
