This is a coin my grandfather found while he was in Europe, about 60yrs ago. He passed away so I cant get the entire story on it but it was either Spain or Italy, I think. Anyone know what it is?

Its a lead seal, probably originally attached to wool or bolts of some other textile.

Looks like Spanish 8 Maravedis of Philip III or IV.

Would a seal have design on both obverse and reverse?

It may. Do the "cracks" appear to pass through the center of the coin? If yes, seal. If not, 8 marevidas.

The original coin is a VIII maravedís of Philippvs IV to 162· (I can´t see the last number), Burgos mint. It has a chop mark for VIII maravedís of the 1641 Sevilla mint.

I don´t speak english very well, sorry. At least I hope that you understandme.
