Based upon the photos you've posted, I'd say it's a safe bet on the coin having been polished. Note the less that shiny areas around the devices. The polishing cloth or wheel, couldn't reach those areas, so not as shiny. I hope you didn't pay too much, or frequent that coin dealer. Good luck on the other coins. You may wish to post them, with clear photos - FULL IMAGE - for review by the many excellent graders we have here, before paying to have them graded.

A heavily polished coin isn't worth grading, and the slab might even say "cleaned" or something along those lines. Cleaned devalues a coin.

I used NGC. They had a good deal with membership. I thought the wheat pennies would grade higher. But in 100 years, I'm sure they'll be worth a lot! lol I'm determined to find the perfect MS 68...or higher coin! :)

I paid less than $20.00 for it back in the early 2000's. I've had a few coins graded but was always unsure if that penny was legit. I hoped it was, but it's not. :(

    Paid too much probably.

Thank you, I appreciate that. It's better to know that you're sending in something worth having graded. That's why I love these forums. You guys are great.

I totally agree! You don't have the risk of getting a poor grade and you get a decent coin for less money. I have bought a few slabbed coins. When the 2003 Jefferson Nickel produced the final year of that design. That very year I bought an MS 70. The slab is still in the original packaging. It's still not worth a lot, but I'm sure it will be one day. It's really nice. It's probably worth more than having it graded myself! I think I paid around $9.00 for it.
