    Wonderful write-up about your grandfather. As you know, my grandfather fought on the other side at Verdun. The only thing he saved from the battle that I know of was the French rifle bullet that wounded him at Fort Douaumont, passing through his wrist into his stomach; he kept it as a souvenir after it was surgically removed. Unfortunately, unlike your coin, it was lost many decades later. But at least I got to see it as a child.
