https://www.davidkahnrarecoins.com/1826-50c-capped-bust-half-dollar-pcgs-cac-24373797.html To me this is what an MS58 should be like, but what prevents this from being an MS graded coin.
Because it's definitely got some circulation wear, it's very nice though...somewhere close to AU55-58 is my guess.
The lower most star on the left. The second star from the top on the right. The entire tail feather area on the rev. All show wear. AU55-58 is top of the grade for it.
some rub on a couple stars and on the stems/arrows/talons on the reverse.. that rub is more then enough to be called circulation and limit it to 58... Beautiful beautiful bustie though
It isn't even the stars. Look into the open fields. See the brilliance around the devices and the dull luster. AU has more of an affect on the coin than just the highpoints.
Look at the eagle's head over the eye and the upper most areas on the wings. IMO AU-58 is a bit of an overgrade. I think AU-55 is closer to the truth.
It’s correctly graded as AU58. There’s minimal wear on the OBV of the coin, e.g. left and right fields. The REV high points also show circulation wear, but it’s less obvious. Although the luster is good, slightly better luster can be expected of an MS coin. CAC approved this coin, because the surfaces are original (i.e. not messed with).
Ever so slight abrasions on the high points, and the rim marks. An very nice survivor in upper AU territory.
The coin has some very light wear on the highest points. It may not have even come from circulation. Envelope friction from jamming coins into tightly packed boxes can cause this. As for the grade, mine is AU-58. You guys have not seen what an AU-55 looks like these days.
