Ok most of us have a few in our collections.. I guessing more pr/pf's and even sp's then MSs but we'll see what shows up.. I'll start with my fav.. PF70 and UltraCam to boot... It wasn't value or even future value, I still think this is the most beautiful comm half I have seen yet PS Interesting fact... "Challenger" is the name of the Eagle used as a "model" for the reverse it is not a salute to the space shuttle as many think...
This was originally slabbed as a Mint Error in 2005. Mint Errors are not recorded in the Census. But, when it was added to the Cherrypicker's Guide in 2012 as a Die Dent, FS-901, I resubmitted it to NGC for the attribution. As a result, it became the Top Pop with no others. This is the first and only coin that I have ever submitted that achieved Top Pop status.
I don't have such a thing as a MS- or PF-70 coin. I think my coin with the most recent date is a 1964-D Washington Quarter in MS-67. But the topic of this post got me wondering. What is the oldest coin graded MS- or PF-70?
I sold most of my modern PR70 coins & now collect only ancient coins, but I did save some U.S PR70 coins that had appealing designs to me . Below are a few. This is the 1st modern proof issue from the San Francisco Mint. The eagle on the reverse is very Romanesque in feeling. Below is the reverse of my favorite Roman Provincial tetradrachm from the Antioch, Syria Mint, circa AD 205-207. The eagle is standing on the leg of a rabbit & has a laurel wreath in his beak. This coin isn't a proof, but it's close to a proof coin .
Criteria was for PF or MS...so you're ok...and a beauty, indeed. Harder in general to either find or accrue/buy a MS70 than a PF70, so to me a MS usually trumps a PF...with all respect to the beautiful proofs...
Gotta find yourself one you like there is something about owning a "perfect" coin {{shivers}} just so cool lol
I've got many...for years now I've only bought 70's... I love this one so much...even with the zinc ocean happening there This is the same coin at slightly different angles!
Yeah I've settled for a lot of 69s because 70s either not availble or that wonderful x3 price over the 69 lol
