I've noticed that when someone mentions another CT member in a post, the name is usually preceded by an @ sign. Is this what is known as tagging, and does the person named get notified that they've been tagged? If so, how do you do this when you are writing a post? Thanks for smartening up a dinosaur.
You will get an alert that someone mentioned you in a post. To mention (tag) someone, when writing a post you just type "@" and start typing the user's name -
I've been wondering how to tag somebody for four years... Thank you @Roman Collector and @ambr0zie and @gsimonel
It might help gsimonel if you also explain what an "alert" is, and how it's delivered to the person "alerted" (Fedex? UPS? Barking dog?). ;-)
I hope it's not FedEx, as my last package with them arrived later than expected. I never worked with UPS so I can't recommend them. Dogs, well, we can't tell if gsmionel (without tag ) likes dogs, I would like an alert from our neighborhood stray dog, but she is currently busy with a snack
..looks like she's doing ok in the neighborhood...but if she needs a home, i have a friend who'd be good to her right @Alegandron ?
It's all Greek to me. Seems "Alerts" are same as messages or e-messages, etc., best I can figure...except messages are usually in an "inbox," but that is different, here...not sure exactly how. I knew I was in a pickle when they stopped including hard-copy instructions with electronics...they're on the device, except I could never figure out how to work the device enough to access the instructions...!
Yes, this is why I said 'alert', this is how the forum designer decided to name that screen. Perhaps 'Notifications' would be better.
# is used for events and topics, in order to group your post with other posts that have identical hashtags, while @ is to tag individuals. (There are exceptions but no need to go into them for now.) On Instagram, say you posted a photo of a Standing Liberty Quarter. You can create a hashtag associated with your photo, say - #StandingLibertyQuarter. Then people who look for that topic under that hashtag may see your photo among hundreds/thousands of others.
Hahahaha. I instinctively tried to click on those hashtags (since I know less than nothing about Ancients) but they don't work on CoinTalk. :-(
