I can’t seem to get the hang of it. How are you guys doing it in your Xs? It’s not any lighting or angle issue, I can’t get anything sharp out of it.

Morgandude11 As long as it's Silver, I'm listening

It takes a bit of adjustment, but the iPhone 12 Pro camera is by far, the best phone camera. All of the pros I know, and most of the amateurs into photography use the iPhone 12 Pro, when they don’t have Nikons or Canons around. This is without exception. It just takes a while to get used to it. I am a lousy coin photographer, as I don’t take the time to set up optimum lighting situations, but I do pro-amateur landscape photography. Give the 12 a chance. Experiment more with it.

This might be obvious but I try not to make assumptions...
Make sure the lens and sensor is clean. Use a 100% cotton cloth/shirt and a breath of fog to clean it.
Touch on the screen right on your coin so that's where the focus is nailed down.
Stabilize! rest it on top of something like a soda can or rest your arms against something like elbows on the table...stabilizing even with the built in image stabilization makes a huge difference.
    Hope that helps!

I have an Iphone 11. I use a few simple rules based on the size of the coin. I start off simply with the phone resting on the red book. It won't focus so put a 2X2 box on top of the red book and anything under a half dollar will focus nicely. If it doesn't, place another 2X2 box on top of the first one and rest the phone on that. It's all dependant on the distance and what you can get the phone to focus on.

expat Remember you are unique, just like everyone else

Also, something that is overlooked often, in the camera settings make sure you have the right focus settings chosen. Most default to Auto Focus which requires a different distance from the subject than if you choose the macro option. If you choose macro then it is important to stabilise your phone and use the timer to avoid any shake

I took these with a new Samsung Note 20 Ultra. Pretty decent for a phone camera.

Some people use a soup can to hold the phone steady.
