Found these...and know absolutely nothing about them, except I just paid 2 dollars each for them. Cold be educational either way. That's not much more than a trip to the "Golden Arches". I actually do know what they are....just not whether or not they're real. Nightowl
As far as identification, I honestly have no idea. If they test as silver, they are probably real. Look kind of like Polish or Hungarian coinage of that age. The better question is, why would you buy coins you know nothing about?
They're actually silver Denaros, minted in Lucca Italy between 1035 - 1125, under the reign of Henry the III-V. I bought them because I liked them. If they're really that old, and worth no more than a mercury dime...that's just a travesty. Nightowl
Ah that's cool, I was going to say attributing AND trying to find if what you have is even a coin is going to be a pain in the ***. Cool, don't have a catalog that goes back that far myself to identify anything earlier then 1600, so very nice!
I think they're probably worth at least what I paid for them. I actually bought 18 of them. I've seen them on sites marked "sold" for 26 and 36 dollars each. My luck.....they're probably fakes....but they're pretty neat, and it would be difficult to make that many varieties of counterfeits I think. Nightowl
They vry well could be real. I've seen some ebay auctions of metal detectorist coins from Europe that were way below cost because the coins were uncleaned and tiny. Plus, if you payed with paypal when you get them and they do not test positive for silver, you can just get your money back!

I have bought hammered medieval pieces that were found by metal detectors and I have to say, they looked exactly like what you are showing us. Medieval pieces that sell for 1-3$ are typically not forgeries due to there abundances and poor condition. It's like buying uncleaned romans for a the same price..
I figured that since they were so different...they were likely real. It's amazing that they aren't worth more than that...but I like them. They're the oldest coins in my collection by a stretch. Nightowl
