How about that - the U.S. Mint chose my favorite design proposal for the new Lincoln cent: The Union Shield design. Here's the U.S. Mint press release: http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=press_release&ID=1080 What a classic look. Anybody else? What are your thoughts on the new Lincoln cent? I've already taken to calling them "Shield cents"....:kewl:
:hail: I'm so excited that they choose the shield design! I thought for sure that boring flag was going to be it. I cannot wait to see these coins in all the different strikes. I've recently fallen in love with the shield nickel and two cent piece coins, so this is going to be one of those modern coins I am actually going to want to collect! :smile
Looks decent, and the mint should like it because they will be able to flatten the relief almost completely The press relief is kind of interesting as well, a description of a future event written in the past tense.
Not bad, except for the awful zinc. It would be nice if they would have a special set with 95% copper 5% tin&zinc.
I love it, and I agree with Green18, I think it is going to look much better in metal, especially as a proof.
HOOORAAAYYYY!!!!!! This is terrific news! We won't have the simple American flag design after all. Much much better choice. Glad they chose the shield with scroll.
