I just acquired another John III tetarteron from a recent auction. I bought it to replace my current example because I normally just have one coin to represent the type.

I would like you opinions on what coin is more appealing to you. Both are nice but what is a better coin for my collection.

    Coin A 23mm 4.09gm

    Or coin B 20.98mm and 2.6gm

Any comments are also Appreciated. Thanks.

Easy choice to me, A certainly has much more going for it. Including the funny shaped flan!

A looks more attractive overall. B has a nice sand patina, but A appears to have better/stronger details on both sides

A in my opinion. Sharper strike, more on center, nicer patina...Although it is more worn, it looks to be a nicer state due to lovely orange:cat:

All I can say is I am jealous haha, I still need a John III tetarteron! Both of these would make me happy so I don't think you could go wrong either way

B has more of the face & I don't know how important the face is to you but A is centered better & I love the colors of it more.

Okay , at the current number of 17, it is clearly a shutout. A wins.

B is still a nice coin but the nice deatail of St George is not enough to compete.

A will replace B in my collection.

Thank one and all for the votes between the two.

A little late, but definitely A - the flan is very interesting and the legends and symbols are clear.

My vote is with A - fantastic detail even if it is on a chunkier, oblong flan.

...You're tuned all the way back to the A channel. All A, all the time.
The strike is better; the wear is better; the legends are better (obv. emphatically included). ...And if you don't care for the size of Saint Gabriel's natural, you probably have better business elsewhere.
...Except, they're clearly variants (starting with the obv. legends); on that basis alone, it's easy to give @Mat a hearty second.
