No, but maybe NGC is taking pity on Ike and grading on a curve relative to the lack of good, higher-grade examples. This actually looks more "details" than anything...that is, as "details" are doled out today. That said, just saw a PCGS MS66 Ike at the bottom of this example's page and it didn't look 66 either, if better than this...maybe about 64 + to me. I dunno.
Well Look at this. This is supposed to be a ANACs 1973-D MS66 https://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-D-ANA...776290?hash=item5498bd0122:g:pjkAAOSwaTRgHJcQ If that is MS-66 then how about this one? http://images.mrbrklyn.com/coins/1973_mint_sets/set1/ike_d_o.png?width=1024
darn nice either way been on Ike's as late nice big coin, grandkids love them, that's all that counts here
That's a listing from Old Pueblo Coins. The owner, Ben, runs a YouTube channel and has a video on that Ike dollar:
The grading companies are less critical on the contact marks due to the ike dollars size and much more critical on the depth of the strike when grading them. Strongly struck and "odd" looking compared to what you are used to seeing grades highly even if it's got a bunch of contact marks. I don't know how to explain it besides maybe "crocodile eyes and really sharp bust outline" as an identifier. Maybe they are grading them on a sliding scale in a way, but they are valuing a strong strike over surface condition/contact marks which at least in my opinon, on the ike series, it's justified. The strong examples should be graded highly vs. The standard soft strikes that look flat and the big heavy coins get banged up, there's no way around that.
The obverse field is rather important on Ikes, because it's so big. If it's clean, it really helps the grade.
I would not have it re-graded, you would be disappointed. I don't see 66 but I'm not the TPG..."Don't worry, be happy."
On the slabbed coin? Chatter on the cheeks. It might be the photography though. How about the lack of detail on the eagles breast.... Vomit Vomit...
How about it’s a worn die and the fields are clean? How about the lack of detail doesn’t affect the grade? I thought it was something weird that was doing this to you. This is an easy gem.
How about it looks like hell and it has a slash across the reverse and drag marks all over the obverse. It is graded a MS66. At 66 the strike seriously matters.
