I have found an ancient coin in the middle east and believe I need a professional to clean the coin for identification. I could use a recommendation as to who to contact. I live in Utah. utjones
WELCOME TO THE FORUM. As to cleaning any coin, if you feel it's really a necessity or just want it cleaned, prior to sending it anywhere, I suggest using the Search tab at the top for things like Cleaning coins, coin cleaning, old coin cleaning, Acetone for coins, Olive Oils for coins. You may well find stories on how something you could do yourself.
If I were you, the first thing I would do is post pictures of the coin. It may not need what you think it needs. But we need to see it to determine that.
The problem is that I've done the distilled water, olive oil, etc. but still can't make much out on the coin. I found it in the same area I found a 300 BC coin so I'm fiairly certain it's at coin. Posting a picture would probably not help but I will. utjones
You should realize ut that there may be no help. It's entirely possible that the coin is badly corroded, not encrusted. Encrustation can be removed thus exposing the coin beneath. Corrosion on the other hand, if it has gotten to a certian point, will have destroyed enough detail that the coin may not be identifiable regardless of what you do to it. Pictures of it will help us ascertain that.
