I thought there was already some thread on this but I cant find it so ill start one myself! Buffalo prices from a year ago are up A LOT. Is this a false bubble from 09 buffs coming out and gold prices rising, or is this coin just a HOME RUN? Will the gold buffalos continue to go up or hit lull and go down like the silver buffalos did this year? Any other views on this coin and when to buy it? Thanks guys! pic included because you cant have enough pics of these beauties!
Are you talking about the fractional buffalo's? That's something i've wondered, will the bubble 'burst' on these fractional gold buffalos? Now might be a good time to sell mine, I bought one $5 (1/10 oz) fractional buffalo, still in its mint packaging directly from the mint in '08 for about $169. Now they're going on ebay upwards of $400. I love the coin not sure if I could part with it but if this inflation of price is artificial, perhaps it may be time to sell. They only made the fractional buffalo's for one year, and I don't think they're making them again, with limited mintages.
Let me know if you sell... im in the market and would prefer to buy from someone here than ebay or other places.
Well considering that I never thought they would do as well as they are doing now, I don't know what to say. In fact, I bought mine and put them away without much of a second thought. It wasn't until this summer when T$ started to look around for a 1/10 oz one and he told me how much they were going for. THats when I started to really pay attention to the prices. I would never have thought that these would go up like that or I would have bought many more sets.
The gold buff's will always be riding gold prices so it's not really as much a fad as it is a bullion winner.
I don't know about that. For instance, would one say the same for the 20th anniversary AGE? These sets are going stronger than ever. Maybe some of it is driven by the gold market, but odds are that this set will always be fairly pricey. I can't completely disagree with BNB that the buff fracs aren't riding the market right now, but in the end, these little suckers are going to be pricey.
Buffalos coins are like Lincolns everybody loves them. The Silver Buffalo goes for over $100. The first 2006 1oz Proof sold around 300,000. I had to buy the 1/4 oz as it was close in size to a real nickel. The 2008 are all low mintage. I'm surprised that they only doubled, but we do have a recession going on.
Right, I'm not saying if gold tanks they will do the same either. I just think that these and any gold proof or non proof coin will follow gold for as much as it's up. The fractional buffs and the proofs will always command a premium though mainly due to the low mint(for the fracs) and the design and strike(of the proofs)
