:pencil:I have posted on here many times about some of the deals I have gotten on ebay, i got a 1976 proof set for .99 with 2.00 shipping. I recently got a 1975 mint set for 3.25, the face value of the coins was 3.82!!!! so there are some good deals if you know where to look!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps you could post a link to that thread so that we don't have to take your word for it.

BTW, calling CT members idiots and referring to CT as a "snake pit" will greatly reduce your chances of receiving a warm reception from CT members.

I think the rules need to be read again. That's all agree or don't join, and that applies to me also.

I typically don't spend much time on BIN listings except for modern proof/mint sets. After reading illini420's comment above, I thought I would give it a try with some other coins. Last night, I found a BIN offer on an 1809 Half Cent in VF/XF condition.

It's a little hard to see what's going on around Liberty's face, but it looks to be just some patina rub. What's great about this coin is that it looks to be a Cohen-2 (scarce) variety.

I'm on travel and don't have my books with me so I could be mistaken...but that's what I think it is. The coin cost me $195. That would be a bargain (imo) if it turns out to be a Cohen-2 in nice condition.

These pictures aren't the best. I would appreciate any comments you care to post...please let me know if you think I got a good/bad deal.

You can get deals.. and Cherry Picking can be done on the new sellers.. but then you have the issue that may come with a new seller..
I do buy and sell on EBAY.. I Have been able to get Junk Silver for my hoard for melt or UNDER at times.. Rare times..
I did get 4 NGC BU Graded Morgans.. under 60.00 total.. It was a great deal and I would have been happy with it ..but when I got them they ended up all being VAM's ..I think one is a hot 100.. so a super deal..

Why would someone send off coins to NGC and pay the fee's and only have it graded in the BU and not pay the bit of extra it takes for a Grade or VAM ident...

Does NGC re-grade at a discount if I find someone to send them back in... I am not a member...
I need to be a member but if I have a few extras hundreds.. well it seems to go to coins..

:loud: Ya know, it might help if you knew what you were talking about BEFORE you opened your mouth. You can borrow this smiley icon of mine if you like - [IMG] - I've had to use it several times in the past.

For the record, I have VOLUNTEERED over 7 years of my time to help build this forum and make it what it is. Never got 1 cent for doing any of it. Neither has any other moderator. Every single one of them does it for free. They do it for YOU !

And Peter, the guy who owns the site, well he doesn't make any money either. This forum operates at a loss, always has. And the money comes out of his pocket. He does it for YOU too. In fact, he has even sold his own coin collection just to get the moeny to keep this site up and running - for YOU. And of course all of the others like you.

Now as I said, you can borrow that foot in mouth smiley of mine any time you like. Or - you can go find a hole to crawl into and hide. That works too ;)

And no, this is not an attack. But it is aimed right straight and directly at YOU ! It is merely an attempt to provide you with ACCURATE information for you DO NOT know what you are talking about.

    My take

I've heard this kind of complaint in here before and think it's unwarranted.

I'd personally like to thank Peter and the admins for the time and effort they put into this forum.

It's a wealth of knowledge and I have made a few friends here too. I've never had any problems but I dont put myself in a situation to have these problems much either. In a public place many different type of people with all their different attitudes will have a hard time getting along and again It's Better Here Then In Other Places by far.

So let's get over this and back to BNB's topic that I was enjoying!!
    Show me the Deals!!

OK...seen the OP start this thread and been reading it now...not sure what has happened but if I understand the thread it is about E bay great finds. So, that being said here is mine I picked up for $19 as a 1910-S. It turned out to be a 1910-S-RPM-001. It was filled with dirt and had to loosen it up a bit and then noticed the RPM. For me it was a super E bay find.

Well I can't say they are deals, but for early coppers he is good. I have been looking at one of his lower end coins, no way can I get one of his higher end coins. I'm still looking for a so called deal to post on this thread.

I agree, even though I am a sucker for feeling bad for those in distress(since nobody likes to go through that), I have to show my true colors here and side with Peter, Dough, and the mods, and heck, the rest of us here.

Peter, I look you straight in the eye and say thank you for your service and hard work put into these forums. I won't say anymore. Just thank you.

PS: Everyone now! Start the chant....

Na na na na.. Come on, I can't feel it!!
Put a little BNB into it!

This thread made a left turn like the movie "From Dusk Til Dawn". I, for one, really appreciate the sacrifice made by Peter and the Moderators...and a special shout-out to the troops (past and present) on this Nov 11!

    Doug,
I for one can say for 100% cetainty that what you just said is absolutely correct these sites do not generate any revenue they cost much more to run them then they bring in you do it for the love of the hobby not to make Money.

Appologies to all parties.....let's bury the hatchet.

I think I did pretty well on this one for 28.63

It was listed as an uncirculated 1887 Morgan dollar....with no mention of a mint mark in the title or the description. I took it into my photo editing program, enlarged it, sharpened it, and inverted the colors...and it is an "S".

I've spoken to the seller on the phone....and specifically asked him if the coins pictured were the ones he was selling....and I even bought a musical instrument from him that wasn't on eBay.

I have bought great coins from lousy pictures....and ones that failed to excite from seemingly good pictures. It's a gamble.

Not sure if the price was a good one or not since I don't follow that series, but I have a feeling that once you get that one in hand it'll look much much better than the photos. And the photos are that bad to begin with. Nice coin!!

When I search buy it now listings I have it sorted to newly listed auctions first by default. Once you really know a series and the going rates of the coins in that series, it becomes very easy to spot sellers who list their buy it now way too low. Like I said though, others hunt in the buy in now territory so the really great deals last only a few hours before someone pulls the trigger!!! :)
