Today I was looking at a friend’s Washington Quarter collection (the original design not the updated design done recently) and I am really starting to appreciate Washington Quarters a lot more. Especially the reverse!

I never used to look twice at them but when they are in high grades (MS64 or above) they have a beautiful luster and look great!

My guess is that Washington Quarters will be highly collected in the future the way Morgan Dollars are today.

I especially love the pre-1965 Washington Quarters because the silver in them can cause them to tone beautifully (like Morgans).

In my personal opinion some coins can look amazing with toning but I don’t think toning looks too great on some coins (like Indian Cents).

Again just my personal opinion. I’m sure a lot of people love Indian Cents toned and think they’re the most beautiful toned coins. Just not my thing.

Having said all that I would love to see some Washington Quarters!

This is not my coin but it’s what I mean when I say they can tone beautifully (in my opinion).

They made what a few million Morgan’s and literally billions (with a B) of the silver quarters from 32-64.
Morgan’s were melted off and who knows how many are out there.
Why do you think they will be collected like Morgan’s?

    Well first of all..

The population was much lower when Morgan Dollars were in circulation. 100 years from now there will probably be far more collectors than today due to population expansion. If the population of the United States doubles in the next 100 years then statistically there will be twice as many collectors in 100 years as there are today.

I should also mention that lots and lots of silver Washington Quarters have been melted as "junk silver" as well. Even many BU condition Washington Quarters were melted during the huge silver price spike of the 80s.

Lastly, I'm not saying they'll fetch the same prices as Morgan Dollars today. I'm not saying an MS63 1932-D will sell for the same price as an MS63 1893-S Morgan Dollar. I am simply saying that I think they will become popular coins to collect. That's all. I am not making any claims regarding price increases.

The Lincoln Cent is the most popular American coin to collect, bar none, of all time. Even more popular than collecting Morgan Dollars. Yet even a 1909-S VDB in MS condition (the most expensive Lincoln cent of all) is still far cheaper than many Morgan Dollar dates.

All of those are beautiful quarters! Congrats on getting a birth year set!

I really like the toning on the 1944-D but I also like the shiny luster of the 1944-S

Is the MS66 1944-P naturally that reddish purple color? Or just from lighting?

My most expensive Washington quarter (paid nearly 40 USD with shipping when W quarters were first released, what was I thinking?!)

This is an old pic of my War in the Pacific quarter, I don't have the coin with me now, so don't ask for the reverse.

I like shiny things, and I am a frequent lowball bidder on graded Washington silver quarters in the $10-15 range, especially in combined shipping situations. Here are a few of mine. IMG_4060e.JPG IMG_4058e.JPG

I'm not a big fan of toning in general, but that's a bicentennial beauty Pickin!

My only W quarter find and a few silvers now get me to 4,000:):). 20210402_094756.jpg 20210402_094807.jpg

    John Skelton Morgan man!

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but I don't expect a cent to be worth any more than a silver dollar, or even close to it. So the price comparison of a 1909-S VDB to a larger silver coin makes no sense to me. I want to buy more nickels, for example, for the price of one Morgan based on the denomination of the coin, not the pop report.
