I won a $50 VISA card from a conference this week. My question is what coin/s would you buy for $50?

Canada silver dollars can be had for spot on eBay, I might go
for some of those. But I would probably get distracted with large cents.

Depends what you already have.... but less expensive coins I generally go to:
Morgans, Maples with privy marks, Nazi 5 mark silvers, or something fun like a British silver dollar.

Oh! and +1 for the guy above me! can silver dollars are beautiful, apmex had some a while back for just over spot too... check em out.

What kind of coins do you like? U.S. or world? Old or new? Then we could narrow it down a bit.

I like type coins, peace dollars, Walkers and recently Canadian Silver Dollars and Ikes.

Well, there are plenty of all of those available in the 50 dollar range. You could get a Philly minted Peace dollar from the earlier years of the series in MS64 for 50 bucks. Might even have enough money left over for an Ike too ;)

Based on my recent experience, I would go to a coin show and search for lower/melt grade walkers that I could buy at or below melt.

Otherwise, I would get the IKE (1990 :)) Dollar and have enough to spare for either a midgrade (63-64) silver dollar (maybe late year peace) or hold out until I get to a coin show. But that is because I already have both silver '76 sets, which you may also want to consider.

    Congratulations on your winnings.

I'd visit the table with a good sized 1/3 off bin and pick out the full horn buffs and silver, quarters, mercs and rosies. Pick out $75 worth of coins and only pay $50.

I'd get a proof ASE while they are still very reasonable and beautiful.

    Two rounds of inexpensive golf.

or perhaps 2 boxes of pennies from the bank, will give you hours of fun!

Well, I spent about $50 on three Walkers (about VG8 grade) at a show this weekend. They included a 1917D - Obverse (VG8); a 1917D - Reverse (VG8); and a 1918D (VG8). So my guess is three low grade Walkers.

Two things are important here. How close to a coin show are you and what type of vehical do you drive. The reason is if a coin show is over 50 miles and you drive an SUV, then the $50 is already shot in gas so when you get to the coin show, all you can do is look. :p;)
Not sure why people always ask what they should collect. In most instances I've noticed people just end up doing or buying what they wanted all the time anyway. If I said buy a pile of Mercury Dimes and you don't collect them and you ended up buying Morgan Dollars, so why ask? Of course it is nice to hear how many are really interested in your future.

I like wheats so I would probably buy a few nice S mints in the earlier dates.

I would buy a slabbed MS-63 Morgan. According to the PCGS guide, there are a number of dates in this grade going for $50.

Well...he asked what coin(s) you would buy.

At any rate, what coin would you use to mark your ball?
