Coin of the Month - March

    Nothing amazing this month.

    My favorite is probably this cool Clavdivs with an interesting portrait style and nice Fides reverse. Flan cracks are savage but I think it adds character.

    Very cool Gothicus! Those cracks certainly give the coin a higher chance of breaking... but like you said add a cool visual appeal.
    My problem is the opposite for a recent March win. Mine is plenty thick but unlike yours has plenty of wear and a different type of crack. A test cut!

    Obv: naked warrior walking right holding sword and shield. Rev: triskele in incuse square. 10.57 grams. Fair; banker cut to reverse.

    This is my favorite from March because Faustina's portrait is in very fine style. Moreover, it's quite scarce. After a comprehensive internet search, I have been able to identify only three other known examples with a stephaned bust: The British Museum specimen, the Tameryazev and Makarenko plate coin, and LAC auction 42, lot 408.

    January and February were quite rich for me, in March I decided to slow down the pace. However I bought 7 worn coins offline and they're OK.
    My favorite remains this one, even if the shape is poor.

    Volusian AE26 of Dacia. IMP CC VIB VOLUSIANVS AVG, laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right / PROVINCIA DACIA, Dacia, standing left with branch & sceptre, between eagle & lion, AN V in ex. SGI 4360.

    Pescennius Niger, R 193-194 AD, Silver Denarius struck at Antioch 193 AD. Obverse: Laureate Head of Pescennius Niger facing right, legend around, “IMP CAES C PESE NIGER IVSTI AV”. Reverse: Jupiter seated facing left on backless throne, holding sceptre in left hand and Victoria, who holds spear and wreath, in his right, legend around, “IOVI PRAE ORBIS”. As Sear-6111 (different legend); RSC-43b var.
