I had a pair of shows this weekend. I picked this guy up at a dealers table. It's an N-11 R1. A common piece but in great shape... and look at the late die state... I thought it was neat. Matt
That is cool. Normally, such a late die state would show cracks and buckling - parts of the central design and legends suffer. But not so with this one. Liberty and the wreath are nice and crisp. Great coin ! :thumb: Congrats.
I really like the metal flow lines. And the spikes(?) from the stars to the rim. Best example of a late die state I've ever seen.
What a sharp central strike! You can see practically every detail! Going only from the photos, I suspect the color/surfaces have been smoothed out at one time -- as the color is a bit too even to be believable -- but it appears to be a good recoloring job and very common on copper from this time period. Very nice coin. Congrats on the NEWP...Mike
Now that you mention it, I don't even have one -- 1817 and 1825 are the only dates that I don't have yet.
Very very nice coin, (and the photos are not so bad either!) I don't think that coin has seen any circulation. Beautiful. A year which I am still missing as well.
I got it as close as I could having the coin in hand... The luster present highlights my lights... but yes, very close.
