It has been a while since I updated my records...
I just finished cataloging my Large Size Notes not includng Obsoletes
I was quite shocked at the accumulation...
It is easy I suppose to loose count as I did....

My records were in need of updating!

So how about your's...can you all pull your records and know what you have, when you got it and what you paid?

I would suppose this would be important in the event of your demise.

How many large size notes were printed total? I would say about that many :goofer:.

I'm pretty consistent with keeping my banknotes and coins updated in my computer program for each. I have over 1000 banknotes and several hundred coins. But I usually input them into my computer program so I don't forget and end up losing my receipt. Wish I had your problems Ricky B. You have some of the most beautiful notes I've seen. Unfortunately, I didn't begin keeping records until a couple years ago so I have no records as to when or for how much I bought the majority of my coin collection.

I keep my reciepts or record things I didnt get a reciept for or found in circulation. Keep track hard copy and on the computer!

I keep records of every coin and US note i buy! got a nice complex spreadhseet set up. For some reason, when i started buying world notes, i didnt keep a record of all those. Not sure why really except for the prices being so cheap. I have started trying to place all the world notes i buy now in the spreadhseet, but they come so rapidly lol

I used to be very consistent with my records, then just lost track... Guess I better get back to it!

I have tool boxes and cardboard boxes full of misc. I must have 40 pounds of misc coins, and I have almost no idea what exactly I own, no real rare coins, and no organization at all. I guess i should sort it all out someday. Or maybe I'll just pass on and let the wife and kids deal with it LOL.

  12. I've been keeping track of what I have since day 1. Luckily for me Excel is one of the very few things in life I feel I am an expert at. I actually had records kept before I even knew how to read US Paper money properly!

I keep track of what it is, for paper money I also keep track of the serial numbers. I also take note of the date I got it and where I got it from. I do not keep any records of how much I paid for anything; that means nothing to me.

With my paper money collection I actually know the date I added to my collection of almost everything I own, not counting the few I inherited and a couple I found in circulation and missed adding in. With my coins, not so much as I had been accumulating them for over a decade, but didn't really become a collector until last year.

I love the title of this thread. Once I saw it, I had to come in and see what you got yourself into. lol

I have to say I do an excellent job keeping track of everything. I know when what things were purchased, where (for most) and what I paid.

I had some catching up to do at first but i'm glad I did it then, instead of waiting until now. I used to enjoy it but now it's more like a necessary burden. I don't look forward to entering stuff after a show but I feel like I have to. Especially keeping track for sets.

I've been back into collecting for less than 2 years but I wouldn't be able to remember what I have without my Excel program. It's really nice having it available.

I keep an Excel spreadsheet updated with all the dates, prices, taxes, grades and amount of precious metals in coins. It's interesting to look back at statistics - how my interest in coins shifted to notes and then pretty much equalized (based on how much I spent on coins and notes in different periods of time).

Back in the 1990s I was almost entirely collecting coins, then my interests shifted to paper money in 2000 ,if my memory serves me right...paper money prices were much lower then & so was everything else ! But I think coins have appreciated at a slower rate then paper money. (IMHO)

    Hi Guys,

Like many of you i did the old switcharama from coin to paper
Money, Was really heavy in to Morgan Dollars and gold coins
Several years ago though i still have them, Iam no longer activley
Seeking them, I use to keep all my records on the computer until
One day in "Crashed" along with all my data!! :(

I now use only paper to keep track of my purchases and inventory
Also i find that things are much simpler!!
