This is a tough one. My first impression is either Probus or Aurelian, but the letters don't seem to line up. The obv appears to have "IMPCM-----O----" I was first thinking IMP C M PROBVS AVG or the like, or IMP AVRELIANVS... but the letter shaped like O doesn't like up in either instance. Then I thought Diocletian but the letters still don't match up. Neither does Constantine.
WOW! That was literally my last guess. The reverse matches for sure. Head shape as well. I'll take it.
Okay, my day has been MADE. Upon close inspection the position of the "O" and what appears to be "C MAN" sure points to Florian. If true, this would be one of the best deals in the history of trade deals, maybe ever. Got it for $5.25 in a small group lot. Incredible. Thanks so much everyone!
I agree that it is Florian though I'm late to the party. Great little pick up there, @hotwheelsearl !
I love these little surprises. I spent $21 on the lot, and I only wanted the Aurelian which I felt was worth the entire cost by itself. Basically, the Florian (and the Constantine genius, and Salonina Fecunditas) I consider to be "freebies" I only wanted this, but got Florian?? Wow.
Nothing will ever beat the Commodus Herculi Romano denarius in a junk lot. This one is pretty close though.
