It is crazy that the 2020 set with the special nickel and five ATB silver quarters was $73.85 and the 2021 set is $105 with just two ATB's and no special coin. Pot is now legal in New York. Perhaps that is also where they are making marketing decisions.

The US Government doesn't need pot to made bad decisions. Maybe those decision makers would do better with a little Wine and Marijuana. :D

I wonder if the price will cause less people to buy it and thus drive up the price due to low mintage?

It's possible. also why I said "wait and see what happens and how it plays out".

I wouldn't personally be comfortable paying that much unless I knew with certainty it was going to be low mintage and rare, but it would need to be significantly low mintage, Like 30K low for something like that to happen.
I just see the home shopping channels and marketers buying them up and passing the cost to their buyers as graded PR70s, in which case, there's not a lot of upside on it if there's a ton of PR70s.

only way it really works out to up the value is if it just slips under the radar and everyone ignores it, and the marketers get scared off of it by not being much meat on the bone for them, otherwise it's just going to be an overpriced proof set.

Every once in a while, I spend a bit of time trolling the TV. Recently, I saw HSN selling the 2021W NGC PF70, First Release, UC for $699. Mike was hawking it on the phone with the girl on stage. After that was through (I don't know how many idiots bought them at that price), they were selling the bullion 2021 for $129.
I saw another station selling the 2019 Proof and Reverse Proof pennies for $129. I can't remember if they had been slabbed.

why . wouldn’t both ase types be in the mint sets,.? I have never purchased from the mint. But if they put all 5 quarters in, why not 2 ase.?

The Mint is trying really hard to kill the hobby. The same thing happened with stamps. Way, way too many issues, people on a budget can't spend all that money buying everything that comes out. The mint is killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Ah, I was searching for comments like this. I think you hit the nail on the head. Unless there are so many people in auto-enrollment and blindly buy it. As I think more I'm now leaning towards purchasing the two coin quarter set.

Sad but true. To the Mint, hobbyists are now an afterthought. Speculators now wag this pandering dog.

Well for the patient (can't stress that enough) there's always good deals. Remember back when the gold dime, quarter, and half were selling at DEFCON 5? Those are close to melt now. As for the Morgan (essentially 5 identical coins)/Peace (this is the key coin), people are trying to make a market for stuff that won't ship until november I think. Essentially futures trading. I think people will be able to get those for closer to the US Mint price come next year.

There's one problem with that theory though and that's the mint, especially with bullion type offerings, can and have sold their overstock to dealers for just a bit above cost and then the dealers will figure out what to do with it later.
Home TV shopping is a big buyer of these type of things for instance, they will send them off for grading and sell them until they do sell out of them and it won't be marked down when they do it. The mint has so much markup on it it might even look like a deal to the unsuspecting.

I'd say don't count on that scenario happening the mint isn't going to break up and scrap the sets they've made. They are selling them to someone if they made them.

This is an example of why I gave up buying from the mint since about 1986.

The mint has been issuing too many items for years. Now that the mint director has jacked of prices through the roof, he has stuck a knife into the heart of that goose.

The big problem is that developing new designs and executing die to strike them have become too easy. The number of issues far out paces most collectors’ ability to pay for them.

I'm one of the idiots that is still buying from the Mint. Due to an error on the part of the Mint, I have 2 accounts. I can't get into one of the accounts because of the Mint screwing around with my password, yet my enrollments are still active. I ended up with 6 ASE-W Proof Type 2 coins and 3 Type 1. I got 2 of the Silver Proof Sets, 2 of the Limited Edition Sets and 2 of the ASE-S Type 2 coins. I don't want to take the enrollments from my new account because they may end up deleting the old account. I'm sure I could sell some of them to someone at my cost plus shipping, but I probably should hold onto them, even if the average sale price drops below what I paid for them.
I get a kick out of watching Rick's Show and The Coin Vault and I've laughed so hard, my belly ached when I saw the price of the ASE-(NO MM) at $350 or better. Even Mike gives me a belly ache just watching him. His actions look like a baseball pitcher throwing the ball (and "You've got to have this coin, because if you don't buy it, they will be sold out.")
It sounds like I don't have anything better to do than watch their shows. Maybe I don't.
Best to you all, though. Don't forget to tune into their shows. They are good for a laugh.
